Don’t get me wrong – several aspects of life are much easier now thanks to the existence of the internet and digital technologies. People can jump between mobile, tablet, and desktop to search for vital information. They can read blogs, listen to podcasts, stream their favorite TV shows and keep in touch with people they careabout via social media. And it lets people shop, anytime and anywhere. The myriad of options available to today’s consumers allows them to visit the websites of numerous vendors and explore countless products. This is where things begin to get complicated - for shoppers and businesses: While it’s true to say that humans like choice, its omnipresence is quickly turning into noise. Without appropriate assistance and guidance, consumers are feeling overwhelmed, anxious and unable to make confident decisions. And, overwhelmed and indecisive customers rarely buy.

To successfully meet customer demands for more immediate, personalized attention, companies are leveraging new technologies that go beyond traditional voice and email. By implementing such channels as live chat, social media, mobile apps, SMS/text messages, self-help solutions, and more, companies can now be ready wherever and however the customer wants. The following report, sponsored by Zendesk, is based on an online survey of 1,044 U.S. consumers who have received online or phone customer service. The research goal was to better understand present customer expectations and to quantify the impact of customer service on business results. Questions were asked about past experiences with customer service, as well as preferences and opinions. Certain questions were repeated from a similar 2013 survey to enable trend analysis.

Mobile has become the first screen for consumers in terms of internet time spent. Hyperlocal location data is unique to mobile and provides a lot of new, valuable information about consumers. Today’s sophisticated buyers demand more transparency in location data science, better campaign performance and ROI from attribution modeling. Finding the right partner that can help build the bridge between real-world consumer behavior and mobile programmatic advertising in a transparent way is essential. To meet those challenges and address the demand for top quality location data, adsquare integrated a global database of HERE Places in April 2017. By leveraging HERE Places and overlaying raw location data of anonymous users with POI data points, adsquare is able to understand exactly what consumers are doing in the real world: what places they visit, when and how often. The exponential growth of omnichannel shopping and ever-burgeoning demand for faster merchandise deliveries is redefining the supply chain’s distribution of consumer products goods. A seminal shift in how shoppers increasingly buy via multiple touch points — online from desktop computers, mobile devices and in-store — has created the need for the “smarter” warehouse to serve today’s connected consumer. As retailers look to merge their brick-and-mortar and online operations to cut costs and boost efficiency, warehouse management systems must keep pace. For this report, Zebra Technologies analyzed the state of the warehousing marketplace among firms in the US and Canada with at least $15 million in annual revenues. The online survey asked IT and operations personnel in the manufacturing, retail, transportation and wholesale market segments to share their insights and business plans over the next five years, in light of a rapidly changing industry.

obile Payments have emerged as a catalyst for transactions across all markets. In underdeveloped markets, mobile payment technology is enabling businesses to sell products and services to consumers that had previously been out of reach. In developed markets, it has made the process of purchasing products and services even simpler. Furthermore, Statista projects that mobile payments will account for more than $210 billion in transactions by 2019. study by UPS and comScore found that 53% of shoppers who don’t use retailers’ mobile apps state it’s because they like using the website better. These shoppers see no benefit from installing these apps, as they provide an inferior experience with no added benefits. Looking at the Apple and Google Play App Stores, a large amount of retailers have apps with very few reviews, and some don’t even have a mobile app. Another problem is the performance of retail apps. 61% consumers expect an app to load in under 4 seconds according to research by Dynatrace. In its study, only one retailer made it under that threshold. And that is just purely opening the app. What is the experience once consumers get past that point?

We’ve become a world of instant information. We carry mobile devices that answer questions in seconds and we track our morning runs from screens on our wrists. News spreads immediately across our social feeds, and traffic alerts direct us away from road closures. As consumers, we have come to expect answers now, in real time. Until recently, businesses that were seeking information about their customers, products, or applications, in real time, were challenged to do so. Streaming data, such as website clickstreams, application logs, and IoT device telemetry, could be ingested but not analyzed in real time for any kind of immediate action. For years, analytics were understood to be a snapshot of the past, but never a window into the present. Reports could show us yesterday’s sales figures, but not what customers are buying right now. Then, along came the cloud. With the emergence of cloud computing, and new technologies leveraging its inherent scalability and agility, streaming data

The widespread use of mobile devices — smartphones and tablets — provides anytime, anywhere computing and communications resources for individuals worldwide. Both smartphones and tablets have made the transition from a personal resource, acquired and supported by consumers, to a professional resource, provided and supported by employers. For midsize firms around the world, those with 100–999 employees, mobile resources play a key role in improving workplace productivity as well as allowing greater flexibility in how and where work is done. New collaboration resources also allow staff in different locations to work together as efficiently and effectively as staff in the same office. The challenge for IT management is how best to coordinate the different collaborative and mobile resources and provide secure management of mobile devices and collaboration tools while enhancing workforce agility and productivity.

Consumer technology trends are clearly driving the evolution of modern work. As consumers (i.e. employees) become more mobile, they want their work lives to be just as flexible and responsive to their needs. They want to be able to use their own device — instead of a company-issued device — for all their personal and business-related responsibilities. As a result, consumer choice is now the driving force behind mobile enterprise decisions, and demand for the traditional locked-down enterprise device is rapidly decreasing.
